New Catherynne Valente “The Folded World”
Posted November 1, 2011
on:Available today is The Folded World, by Catherynne Valente. Book two in her A Dirge For Prester John series, this volume promises to be a passionately beautiful tale of the beginning of the end of the world. Through interwoven narratives and creatures that may have never been (or maybe they were?), Valente is a modern master at making places that never were the place you simply need to be. She’s one of the very few authors whose books I purchase brand new, sight unseen. You can read my review of the first book in the series, The Habitation of the Blessed, here.
not to mention some stunning cover art:
As I said, I bought this “sight unseen”. so it wasn’t until I got it home and opened the book that I saw this magnificent surprise (which yes, I already mentioned on Twitter, but I am STILL jumping up and down about it):
my first blurb! And it’s in a Valente book!!!!! I feel like I just got an Oscar nom for my first movie.

I’ve never read any Valente, but it looks like I really need to – and congratulations on the fantastic blurb! I haven’t got blurbed yet (to my knowledge!) but if I ever do, I think I’ll probably react exactly the same way. 😛

Mark, you should check out this series. I think you’d get a kick out what she’s doing with it.
