well, at least New To Me!
Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein. For those of you paying attention, yes, I already have a copy. But I wanted another one.
A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. I found a really nice newer printing, with some beautifully Frazetta-esque cover art. I had started listening to an audio version of this, but the audio I had (free download? sometimes you get what you pay for) just wasn’t working for me. Happy to have finally found a copy, regretting that I didn’t the other two Burroughs books they had.
Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon, by Spider Robinson. Never read any Spider Robinson. And how can I say no to something with that ridiculous of a title?
Plague Ship by Andre Norton. Speaking of things I can’t say no to. I got a kick out of the cover page that says Andre Norton writing as Andrew North. The “about the author” page closes with”Miss Norton presently resides in Florida under the careful management of her feline associates.”
A Million Open Doors by John Barnes. I loved his earlier novel, Orbital Resonance, so why not give this one a try? It’s the beginning of a trilogy, I think.
Citizen of the Galaxy by Robert Heinlein. A title I’ve heard about, but never actually seen a copy of. HAD to buy it! I like that it says “To Fritz Leiber” on the copyright page. this might be a first paperback printing. anyone know?
At the Mountains of Madness and other tales, by H.P. Lovecraft. If I’m going to read “Lovecraftian” fiction, I might as well read more of the original material, right? I’ve read a few Lovecraft short stories over the years, and couldn’t say no to this skinny little volume. It cost less than a cheap cup of coffee.
I tease Baen for their silly cover art, but they reprinted this big fat volume of Cordwainer Smith short stories called When The People Fell. Sure, it’s got plenty of entries I’ve read elsewhere, but seriously, this is an aawww yeah baby moment!!!
Questar A gift from a friend, this is some totally sweet 4 color comic book versions of classic scifi stuff, including (holy shit!) Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell! Yes, *that* John W. Campbell, and yes, that is the story that the movie The Thing is based on! That’s some damn good scifi horror, in my opinion. Someone really knows how to butter me up with goodies like this. Also, some very funny “insults”:

Friends, this is the worst part about being a book reviewer who is also addicted by buying books. I just finished the first Rachel Aaron Eli Monpress book, and then started on The Diviner by Melanie Rawn. i’ve got a bunch of other stuff I’m supposed to pick up next. . . . but there’s all these beauties that are new to my shelves. I want to pet them, and read them, they’re my precioussesssss…. until the next bookstore trip that is!

copyright page of Citizen of the Galaxy says 1957 and “An Ace Book by Arrangement with Charles Scribner’s Sons”. I;m pretty sure the first printing hardback was in ’57 from Scribner. . . too bad this one isn’t in good enough shape to be worth much more than i paid for it. But I did buy it to read, after all!
I’ll bring it in for you to look at, and I’ll also bring in the Questar illustrated, I think you’d get a kick out of that one!

I have all the books in the top photo, though not all in the same editions. My TIME ENOUGH… is a hardcover, fer instance. I really like the Callahan. There are almost enough ‘tales told in the bar’ books to make a subgroup. That would be a fun reading project. I’ll start you off with Tales from the White Hart by Clarke.

Good picks, Andrea! The Callahan stories are fun. And the Citizen of the Galaxy might be a first paperback. Does it give a date inside?
