The Best Books I Read This Year

Posted on: December 26, 2016

The best thing about being a book blogger is all the amazing books I get to read! I didn’t read as many books in 2016 as I wanted to, but I sure picked some good ones to read. If I’ve given you good recommendations in the past, but you think you might have missed some, this list is a great reference of stuff I think you might like. If you’re new to my blog and are wondering what kind of books do it for me, this list is a great place to start.

In no particular order, here are my favorite books that I reviewed this year:

The Narrator by Michael Cisco

Spells of Blood and Kin by Claire Humphrey

Darwin’s Radio by Greg Bear

The Assimilated Cuban’s Guide to Quantum Santeria by Carlos Hernandez

The Flux by Ferrett Steinmetz

Clockwork Phoenix Volume 5 edited by Mike Allen

City of Blades by Robert Jackson Bennett

Way Station by Clifford Simak

But…the year isn’t over! I’m madly trying to finish a couple more!

Good choices. How many total did you read?

oh, I’m still reading for the rest of the year, but I’m reading January stuff, trying to stay ahead of the game!

I read an embarrassingly small number of books this year. I averaged less than 1 book a week, and on top of that probably had 20 that I read 50 pages into and then never picked up again. To add insult to injury, I also became a couch potato this year, watching more TV than I have in the last 5 years combined.

been a weird year.

Love Way Station. Simak’s best novel. Prefer his short fiction to his novels. Have never been able to get through a Michael Cisco book. Also remember enjoying the Greg Bear. City of Blades is on my TBR pile.

Like Steve, I think WAY STATION is Simak’s best novel. I read it when it was first published in the 1960s and have reread it a couple of times. A great book!

My list, the 28 most enjoyed of the 144 I read, will be up Friday. Only a couple were published in 2016. I read older stuff, and as many mysteries as SFF.

I reduced it down to a dozen.

Why haven’t I read Spells of Blood and Kin yet! Damn. I’ve had it for ages but I just got so far behind and have been trying to catch up. I will bump this up the list I think – still a few days left i 2016 after all!

Aaaaah this makes me realize I need to come back to the Robert Jackson Bennett series. I loved the first one!

and if you loved the 1st one? the second is ever better! (how a book can be better than City of Stairs, I have no idea, but he did it!)

some of the books reviewed here were free ARCs supplied by publishers/authors/other groups. Some of the books here I got from the library. the rest I *gasp!* actually paid for. I'll do my best to let you know what's what.
