Reading plans? Disrupted.

Remember all those plans I had? To pick up The Goblin Emperor, or finally write a review of Hearne’s Hounded or Pinborough’s The Death House?
Yeah, those got completely and thoroughly disrupted. Because, on a whim, I picked this up instead:
and oh good god it is amazing. it’s a bazillion pages long and I am devouring it. Ladies? You’re gonna want to read this. Gents? this is a girly book. Buy it for a lady in your life, she will thank you. it’s sexy, has tons of awesome history stuff, it’s fast paced, and also, very sexy.
This stuff came into the house fairly recently too:
Down and Out in Purgatory, by Tim Powers, out in June from Subterranean Press. It’s Tim Powers, so I know it’s going to be good.
84 Charing Cross Road, Helene Hanff’s famous 1970 account of her twenty year correspondence relationship with a rare book dealer. I haven’t seen the movie, but I know how this story ends. please don’t wreck it in the comments for people who don’t know.
Worst Contact, edited by Hank Davis – a new anthology of mostly older first contact stories. Promises to be entertaining
The Lyre Thief by Jennifer Fallon – out next week from Tor. Neat premise, giggle-worthy character names.
too many books, not enough time, reading plans turned upside down on a lark. the life of a book blogger, yeah?

I loved The Lyre Thief…LOVED it! I hope you enjoy it too.
And I know what you mean, I get derailed on a daily basis. March is going to be especially tough, with all these great books coming out to distract me…

I know the Outlander series is considered a “girly” book, but I still REALLY want to check the series out, to what the hype is all about. And once you finish that one: GO READ THE GOLBIN EMPEROR 😛

haha – fist pump! I must have read six of these books before i ran out of steam! Course I had a wait in between some of them but when I first discovered Outlander – which is called Cross Stitch in the UK for some incredibly strange reason (because a book that sounds like it’s about stitching would obviously be more appealing than the Outlander!) – I literally couldn’t stop reading. I was on holiday at the time and when I found out this was a series I spent half of my time looking for a book shop and hoping that they had a copy of No.2. It certainly is a very distracting book.

Oooh, nice! I’ve been meaning to read Outlander, and hearing you say it’s good makes me much more likely to pick it up in the near future. It seems like exactly the kind of book I’ve been in the mood for.
I’ve decided that for the most part, I’m not doing “reading plans” this year, because there’s something to be said about reading a book purely because you’re in the mood to do so and not out of any sense (even in your own head) of obligation.

I loved Outlander!! I have read it a couple times… Never felt compelled to read on in the series, though. Maybe one day!

Charing Cross Road – the movie is not bad, the book is better. Love it, have read it a couple of times though it’s been a while. Enjoy!

As a blogger who frequently gets derailed by what I want to consume rather than what I “should”/planned to be watching, don’t let it bother you. I feel like it’s good to compel myself to try something I’m not totally hyped on once in a while, so I don’t spend all my time in my comfort zone, but when the hype train hits? Ride that sukka!
I should buy this book for my girlfriend. Also, I should get a girlfriend. Orz
