some new goodies

here’s  look at some books that have recently (and some not so recently) made their way into my to be read eventually pile. What looks good to you?

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison, this is one that everyone has been talking about, so I’m sure i’ll  be reading it sooner rather than later. I dig the cover art, too.

The Chimes by Anna Smaill comes out in May, and it’s been getting a ton of  buzz.  here’s the blurb:

After the end of a brutal civil war, London is divided, with slums standing next to a walled city of elites. Monk-like masters are selected for special schooling and shut away for decades, learning to write beautiful compositions for the chimes, played citywide morning and night, to mute memory and keep the citizens trapped in ignorance.

Spells of Blood and Kin is Claire Humphrey’s debut novel, coming out in June of this year.  Paranormal,  family secrets,  debts to be paid, violence, sounds good so far!

Lavie Tidhar’s Central Station has also been getting a lot of buzz, but everything he writes gets buzz. I run hot and cold with Tidhar, some of his stuff I really like, and some of it goes completely over my head.  at less than 300 pages, I already like how short this book is. some of the longer books I’ve been trying to get through lately, it’s like “when is this going to end already!”. Well, Central Station comes out in May, and I’m sure I’ll be able to zip through it before then.

I should probably be embarassed that I don’t think I’ve ever read Patricia McKillip?  I’m pretty sure these short stories have been printed before, just never collected.  This collection hits  bookstore shelves in June, and hopefully by then i’ll at least have dipped my toes in.

in other news, i’m still slowing reading through The Coldest War by Ian Tregillis. I think my entire review is going to be me picking apart Gretel, and trying to figure out what makes her tick. there’s also some disturbing similarities between her and the Eidolons. Not sure if I want them to never meet, or if I really want them to get to know each other.
