Blind Date with a Book (GIVE AWAY)

Posted on: August 17, 2014

2014-08-17 18.16.56

I’ve got books to give away!  But we’re gonna do this the fun way. And by fun way, I mean blind date with a book!  that means I give you a little bit of info about the book, and you get to decide if it looks interesting.  I won’t tell you the title, or the author, but I can tell you that these are all new books published in the last 12 months,  from publishers like Orbit, Tachyon, and Titan Books. They were all sent to me as review copies, and either I have duplicates, I’ve read them and don’t plan to read them again, or it’s a title I opted to skip on.

Here’s the rules:

– due to the cost of shipping overseas, this give away is for US only

– let me know in the comments which book(s) you’re interested in, and yes, you can request more than one. To be eligible, you *must* specify your choices (None of this lazy “they all look good!” stuff), by referring to the wrapping paper color, or one of it’s descriptors, or something useful. If we don’t already  know each other, please leave me a way to reach you – twitter, e-mail, etc.

– Give away closes midnight, eastern time, Sunday Aug 31st.

Winners will be announced in early September.

now that the pesky rules are out of the way, here’s what is up for grabs:

Our library did something like this around Valentine’s Day this year….I didn’t participate because it was mostly romance novels and I’m not a big romance novel fan.

I’d like to throw my hat into the ring for the time travel book and the epic fantasy novel.

I can promise you that none of these would be found in the romance section of the library.

Have I read the Fantasy with Industrial Revolution vibe? I am guessing I have, though I have two thoughts about what it could be.

Oh wait, doing this wrong.

I looked through your blog, and didn’t see a review for that one, if that helps any.

Reblogged this on FeetForBrains and commented:
Reblogging because free stuff from Little Red. Seriously, I’m guessing that some of these could be Hugo winners. I want the red one with the snow flakes, because snow flakes. Ugh, I’m done with summer.

Like

shhh, don’t tell anyone, but the red/white snow flake wrapping paper is Christmas wrapping paper. Cuz yeah, I’m done with summer too.

Definitely interested in the red and white science fiction and the black and white time travel!

My local library has done this sort of thing the past 2 years. Even if I don’t end up loving the book behind the wrapper, it’s always fun to discover what I’ve brought home. For some reason, I always seem to end up with nonfiction regarding subjects in which I’m not particularly interested…but I give ’em a try anyway!

Although I’m not a big fan of pink, I am a fan of short stories – and especially of authors who write in multiple genres! I’m most interested in #5.

Such a nifty idea. I’ve seen other libraries (not mine…) doing things like this, but typically not in the sci-fi / fantasy stuff, which more or less pulls me out anyway.

I’d go with the majority of the people before me and say silver. Maybe it’s the “epic fantasy.”

Now that I’m going back to physical books maybe I steal this idea from you some day.

I’m an anthropologist and an academic, so it’s probably no surprise that I’m intrigued by the contents of the silver wrapping paper. What’s not to want about archaeology & a book with a secret? And wouldn’t the Industrial Revolution BE magical to many? Have I missed anything?

Like

I would like either the silver, epic fantasy or red & white SF packages. Thank you for a chance to win a book.

I’m beset with books right now and others need these more than I, so I am actually more interested in these questions:
1) You can guess which one I would choose, right? I have probably read it already though.
2) Which one would you send to me, cackling something like, “What he really needs is THIS one! ahahaha!” (I have a guess for this too….)

What a fun giveaway! I’ll have to try this the next time I’m giving away print books.

😦 Youtube some comedy clips? I e-mailed you one of my favorite Dana Carvey clips, i hope it makes you smile at least.

Thanks for the email and link. Honestly, I’m not a big one for comedy. I did watch some old WHAT’S MY LINE shows, and some Steve Allen stuff (yes, I’m old, but you knew that) but I was still steaming too much for it to help and I quickly gave it up.I’m distracted today by a crew doing a washing and sanding on our two decks. Then the decks will be treated and clear stained. (three guys, three days).

Old Steve Allen stuff is the best. it’ll be nice to have the decks done, right?

some of the books reviewed here were free ARCs supplied by publishers/authors/other groups. Some of the books here I got from the library. the rest I *gasp!* actually paid for. I'll do my best to let you know what's what.
