Congrats! You survived my EpicConFusion posts, as full of geekery, author stalking and horrible photos as they were. (BTW, thanks for all the comments, I am slowly getting to respond to them. too slowly. it’s all twitter’s and my day job’s fault)
But you survived! You deserve a prize!

I haven’t gotten to your other posts yet so if you mentioned this, and/or if my memory is just faulty, forgive me, but have you read the Old Man’s War series? If not I recommend reading this one between The Ghost Brigade and The Last Colony. It is an excellent little book but its impact is greatest if read in the right place in the series.

I would like to meet Kristine Kathryn Rusch at a convention. She’s worked as an editor, publisher and writer–and is great at all of them! She’s written in many genres–science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, romance. She knows so much about the publishing business and where things are going that I think she would be fascinating to chat with.
And Scalzi totally rocks, too–but I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him, albeit briefly . . . .

Hm… An author I’d like to meet at a con? That’s a tall order to trim down a long list to just one, but I’ll put forth the name Joe Haldeman… Several years ago I wrote a short paper contrasting and comparing the main character of Haldeman’s “The Forever War” and the main character of Robert A. Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers”, using the USMC’s 14 Leadership Traits as a basis for the comparison:

Never been to a convention, and he’d probably never be at one, but I’d love to meet Richard Adams (author of Watership Down and Shardik).

I’ll bite! I’d love to meet Brent Weeks. I only discovered his work recently, but I find him hilarious–he’s one of a rare set of people who can be sharp and witty while still coming across with a very positive attitude (that doesn’t get overwhelmed by snark). From what I’ve read of his blog and Twitter posts, it seems like his writing voice is much like his in-person voice, and I’d love to find out for myself.

Jacqueline Carey. Her works have made me a better person.
Guy Gavriel Kay – his works have made me a more passionate person.
Terry Pratchett – Because of him, I laugh more.
Karin Lowachee – When I need to funnel some intensity, I pick up one of her books.

There are two authors that I desperately want to meet at a Con, but they’ve never been in my neck of the woods before: Scott Lynch and Pat Rothfuss.
Scott is…well, Scott. If Schwarzenegger hadn’t already made it cliche I would have that man’s child just to ensure future generations had the opportunity to experience even a small amount of his brilliance.
Rothfuss seems, for all practical purposes, to be my best friend, only we somehow never managed to meet.

That’s a tough question! The first names that popped into my head are of authors who have passed away. I suck at picking just one of anything because I love variety. That said, it would be awesome if I could meet Neil Gaiman, Michael Stackpole, Patrick Rothfuss or Tamora Pierce at a Con or signing, etc. I don’t read a lot of blog entries & whatnot but I’ve found myself reading several posts written by Gaiman, Stackpole & Rothfuss. It’s an interesting insight into the writers and some posts have been very thought provoking or downright hilarious! Tamora Pierce has been one of my favorite authors since I was a kid. I still devour her books. It would be grand to meet her and just talk to her for a while. It’s always cool to get to know someone better.

Ooh, that’s a toughie. Thanks to Armadillocon, I can say I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Scott Lynch and Steven Brust (and met some other authors whose work I’m discovering and love).
Of those I still haven’t met…. George R. R. Martin, Guy Gavriel Kay, Brent Weeks, and Patricia C. Wrede, to name a few. I’d especially love to meet Patricia Wrede, as her books are what brought me into contemporary fantasy.

I would love to meet Brandon Sanderson. I like his books and he sounds nice, but I also think he could hold up a conversation with anybody. Thanks for the giveaway!
