I have no content today. No witty post or nicely written book review. it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, I’m wearing sandals, and I think I might go to DQ for a dipped cone later.
anyways, let’s throw some weekend questions out there, just for shits and giggles, shall we?

Best Book Thus Far: Among Others by Jo Walton. Read it once to myself and once aloud to my wife. This would be followed closely by Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi and The Red Herring Without Mustard by Alan Bradley
Looking most forward to:
Fuzzy Nation by John Scalzi
City of Ruins by Kristine Kathryn Rusch
In my garden:
weeds. Been a long time since I’ve planted a garden. By in the garden of my mind (filled with veggies I’ll be buying from farmer’s markets soon), I am seeing fresh cherry tomatoes and cilantro and onions to make homemade salsa.
Favorite doctor: Has always been Tom Baker. Although I like Eccleston and Tennent.

stevebetz – mmm…. mint! and limes! Mint julep time! i know nothing about TC Boyle, and this must be remedied!
CarlV- when the Walton came out, it was front and center on the library’s “new” shelf, now I can’t find it anywhere!!! I’ve been hearing really good things about Fuzzy Nation. I have a copy of Little Fuzzy around here someplace, maybe I should read it first?
both of you – What’s a good Tom Baker year to start watching? i love netflix!!!

Best so far: The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson
Looking forward to: The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett
I’ve got 3 gardens but my favorite is the Harry Potter garden which is full of stuff like Green Wizards, a (small, not whomping) willow, and (hopefully) dragon tongue beans.
Favorite Doctor: Jon Pertwee, but Tennant is a close second.

Best so far I think would be The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet
Looking forward to: new books by Scott Westerfeld (Goliath) and Ilona Andrews (Magic Slays). Currently enjoying Game of Thrones.
We just re-landscaped, and now I’ve got herbs — basil, cilantro, oregano.
Tom Baker is who I watched as a kid, so that’s who I know. I was thinking about trying the latest series?
Glad to hear from stevebetz the new TC Boyle is good — it’s on my list!

Best book: I re-read The Doomsday Book. Does that count?
Looking forward to: The Map of Time. The ARC just arrived and I’m itching to get started on it.
My garden: I’m an avid gardener. Perennials and herbs are popping up, lettuce and broccoli are growing and I’m making plans to put in the annuals. This is when my audio books get a lot of listening time.
Favorite doctor: Tom Baker.

Mari – Pratchett is always a good choice. I’ve been meaning to pick up Good Omens. zomg, a Harry Potter garden? too cute!!!
curlygeek – is that new Westerfeld part of the series, or has he got some stand alones coming up? He keeps getting recommended to me, but I don’t know where to start and I’m not sure I want to get involved in another series. re:Doctor – this most latest series isn’t doing much for me yet, start w/Eccleston, and then you’ll get to my future husband Mr. Tennant. đŸ˜‰
Leslie – of course re-reads count!! your garden already sounds so yummy I want to eat it. You need to do a garden photos post on your blog!
right now my garden just looks like planters full of dirt. the seeds went in last weekend, and I’m waiting for them to pop thru! hopefully next month i will have a balcony garden overflowing with beans, cukes, chives, herbs, and nasturtium.

Best Book: Pump Six and Other Stories by Paolo Bacigalupi
Best Story: Technicolor by John Langan
I look forward to books by Anthony Neil Smith, China Mieville, and the return of R.A. MacAvoy.
I have a plant behind me in the window that’s lasted 11 years — a record. Other than that, a well-managed lawn is the extent of my thumb greeness. I think I may try my hand at pepper plants next year.
I don’t speak enough Doctor to have an informed opinion.

Best: I think “Kraken” by China Mieville is the book I’ve had the most fun with so far this year. Thinking back… I really liked Witch Grass by Raymond Queneau too.
Looking forward to: My next Mieville read, whatever it may be. And “Mr. Rosenblum Dreams in English” by Natasha Solomons, whenever it gets to my mailbox.
Garden: The remnants of spring perennials (tulips, daffodils, etc.) Next weekend I will get some pots with pansies and marigolds going.
Doctor: I’m intrigued by all this talk of Tom Baker. Must investigate. Tennant has my heart for the time being, but I have many other Doctors to meet before I can claim a true favorite!

I don’t know if this is the BEST book of the year so far, but I immensely enjoyed Hounded by Kevin Hearne this past weekend.
Book I’m looking forwad to–that’s hard. I think it’s a tie between Hearne’s next book, Hexed, and Sarah Monette’s new book, A Tempering of Men.
I don’t have a garden, but I do have one plant. I don’t even know what kind of plant. I just know it’s doing rather well for not getting watered more than once every couple months. That’s my kind of foliage.
My favorite Doctor is number 11, but to be fair I’ve seen all of 11’s episodes and almost no others except for the Master episodes with 10.

what’s the best book you’ve read so far this year? Definitely The Case of the Clockwork Man by Mark Hodder. Mind you it’s only May…
what book are you most looking forward to for the remainder of the year? Mmm difficult. I am looking forward to the next George Mann but there are so many possibilities.
what’s in your garden? a combination of weeds, herbs and a few flowers (it’s small)
who is your favorite Doctor? (if you’re suddenly thinking dentist? optometrist? just skip this question) Again hard one. Probably David Tenant or Matt Smith although I do like Tom Baker

best book I’ve read this year: Habitation of the Blessed, by Catherynne Valente. Yes, it was better than Rothfuss’s Wise Man’s Fear.
Most Looking Forward to: Embassytown, by China Mieville
Garden: my nasturtium, cilantro, basil & parsley have finally germinated, now just waiting on the beans & cukes!

Reboot era: We understand your *appreciation* for Tennant, and think he did a good job. We liked Eccleston’s quirky/serious nature. (He left to quickly.) Perhaps a little like Tom Baker who remains our all-time favorite.
Lately we have lost interest in the reboot series. Too much politics? Anyway, this is not a Doctor Who post, this is a day off post. What ice cream flavor did you favor we wonder?

Wow, I’d totally forgotten about this post, it’s from nearly a year ago! I too have lost interest in the new Doctor Who stuff. I heart Amy, but she seemed to be a harbinger of crappy writing. sigh.

Best: Easy — “When The Killing’s Done” by TC Boyle — should be required reading
Looking forward to: Hrmm, my to-read stack is already so high it’s hard to say though I’ve been saving up Aimee Bender’s “The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake”
Garden: lemons and limes and importantly for tomorrow’s Kentucky Derby, mint.
Doctor: I’m a Tom Baker man.
