Deck, double deck, and new acquisitions.

Because I have a digital camera and I know how to use it! (Ok, I sort of know how to use it)
I’ve still got The Wolf Age by James Enge and Mountains of Majipoor by Robert Silverberg topping the TBR list, but here are some new goodies on deck, double deck, and triple deck for the next little while:
There’s something in that photo that I’m super crazy excited about, can you guess what it is? Hint: It’s from the friendly folks at PYR.
I hadn’t planned on buying Grey, but I recently read some good reviews of it, and it was on the dollar table at Bargain Books because the cover was a bit marked up. Also from Bargain Books, the Ai Yazawa. I’m undecided on Bargain Books – no service, but tons of random cheap stuff that’s usually in mint condition. A consumer’s dream, or a nail in the coffin of my favorite independent bookseller?
Oh, and I got seduced by this too:
I just can’t help myself when it comes to Robin Hobb. You’re looking at the Soldier Son trilogy, book 1 of which I’m about 150 pages into. I probably won’t read these books one right after the other, but I hope to get to all of them, eventually.
So If I don’t get (too) distracted by anything else in the next week or so, you should expect to see reviews of at least a handful of the stuff mentioned or pictured in this post.

Oh, I hadn’t realized Grey wasn’t just a digital book—Night Shade Books is (or was) offering it for free on its website.

That’s great that you got Cowboy Angels, Andrea. I’m looking forward to it, too. And I highly recommend Gray – I just started his second book, Yarn. He’s one of the most impressive new writers I’ve found. He has both wild ideas and utter confidence in them.

I picked up a copy of Cowboy Angels the other day too. I read the first chapter and it seems promising.
I have a copy of Grey that a friend gave me awhile back but it is languishing on the ever-growing pile right now.
Unfortunately Bargain Books might just be that nail. Half-Price Books has done that here where I live and while I love the bargains I’ve found at Half-Price, I truly wish there were more independent book sellers around.

I did feel weird shopping at Bargain Books, and I do feel they are the Walmart of bookstores and a nail in the coffin of indie stores. We happened to be in that shopping center for an unusual errand at another store, and I was like “i’ll just pop in there for a minute, see what’s in the dollar room”, and that was my first step towards hell. 😦 But they had Manga for $4, AND the specific volumes I was looking for!!! Seriously, you can’t say no to that!

You won’t get any blame from me. I do the same thing. It is fortunate, or unfortunate for me (depending how you look at it) that all 3 of the Half Price Books locations are at least a 40 minute drive away from where I live. That means that most of my book shopping is done at the local Barnes and Noble or Borders, which are certainly not Independent booksellers, but they are the only other option I have and they are local stores employing local people, so that is something I guess.

I hope you are super excited about COWBOY ANGELS…cause I sure am!
Also, Robin Hobb, I’ll be interested to see how it stacks up to the Farseer series, which is one of my all time faves ever.

When I opened the envelope and saw that Mark Hodder, I was seriously jumping for joy around my apartment. But Now I’m super excited for Cowboy Angels too, as I just found out it’s the February book for my local SF/F reading group!
I loved books 1 & 2 in Farseer, but the 3rd one was so depressing! I should finish Shaman’s Crossing in the next day or two, and hopefully will have a review up sometime this weekend.
