Wow TGIFriday! I’ve been looking forward to the week ending since, umm, about Monday? Tomorrow is a local chili cookoff, so I’m super excited to stuff myself full of chili and vote for the best!
and today is the Friday Blog Hop!
First time visitor? It’s Graphic Novel November here at Little Red Reviewer, and we’re about a week into it. Some serious stuff, some silly stuff, quite a bit of Japanese stuff. Scroll down a bit to the archives on the right to check out October’s articles, if picture book’s ain’t your thing – plenty of scifi, fantasy, steampunk, mystery, and weird stuff.
today’s blog hop question:
“What are your feelings on losing followers? Have you ever stopped following a blog?”
I am a horrible person. My answer to the first one honestly is I don’t really care. This is a very, very, very niche blog, and not everyone is into all the weird stuff I’m into. If you visit and post, that’s wonderful, it means you saw something that kept your attention for more than 5 seconds, and that i’m posting things that you find interesting. that’s wonderful. but maybe you’re not into scifi, fantasy, or this weird japanese manga stuff? know what? that’s OK too.

I pretty much said the same thing. I’m not too worried about followers. People who like what’s posted will return. I like weird, I like interesting and I like cleanly styled, nicely laid out blogs so I can actually read the posts.

I’m always a little bummed when I lose followers but make every effort to
turn every lost follower into a learning experience so I can improve my
performance.
On the flip side, I only stop following people when they give me a reason to
such as being totally off message or being too controversial in an negative,
over-the-top way.

Not horrible at all! I don’t care either – mostly because I’m not even aware of being “followed”! 😉 Makes it sound like a contest doesn’t it?

Lol that’s not horrible! I think it’s a great attitude to have. You can’t write for what you think masses of people want to read, you have to write what interests you. And if you catch a few people along the way that have the same interests, then bonus!

Hi, I’m here on the Blogger Hop Tour. I personally really like sci-fi fantasy…not too sure about the Japanese Manga, but my sister and her son are really into Anime. My nephew (who is in his 30’s btw) taught himself to speak Japanese by watching them.
I personally think that many of us who blog about books simply want to share our thoughts and the great books that we encounter. Followers are icing on the cake.

I have so few followers that if I lose one I wonder what exactly I did wrong. Having said that i rarely ever stop following one and the blogger would have to do something that I found really offensive to make me drop them.

Just wanted to say that I liked what you said about losing followers — I’m going to keep that in the back of my mind regarding my own blog.
I’ve been enjoying your recent posts about manga — I should comment more instead of just reading! 🙂

I don’t think you’re horrible, just practical! I like manga and everything Japanese (except sumo), but not really sci-fi (is Harry Potter sci-fi? LOL).

eh, this hop kind of annoyed me. it’s great for the hit meter, but doens’t that just make me some kind of hypocrite when I say “this isn’t a popularity contest!” I saw so many who were crushed everytime they lost a follower, or would never be so rude as to stop following someone. what the hell are we, lemmings? sheep? something so small, so petty. and i got all frustrated and bent out of shape over a bunch of blogs that post things I’m not interested in (PNR, I’m looking at you).
might be my last hop for a while. i want people here because they want to be here, because they see something interesting, something more than that they just want me to return the favor.

I think that’s a really great attitude! We should all be doing this because we want to and it’s fun, not to horde as many followers as possible =) I wish I could cultivate that attitude myself.

You are definitely not a horrible person! You can’t please everyone. I’d rather have a handful of dedicated followers than a ton of “fly by night ones!”
