Friday Blog Hop!

Book Blogger Hop
A great question on the friday blog hop this week, one that’s crossed my mind many times:

“When you read a book that you just can’t get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?”

it depends on the book.  If it’s just some random book from the library, I put it down and don’t worry about it.  Maybe I’ll pick up a few days later, maybe not.  But if it’s something I’ve really been looking  forward to, or something I have made an obligation to review, I better stick it out!  Many times I’ve been happily surprised by a book that started out slow, but had such a crazy ending, the 600+ pages it took to get there was worth it (Neal Stephenson, I’m looking at you!)

I’m just like you; though it’s been a years since I got a book out from the library I had no problems ditching something that didn’t grab me, but when it’s my own books – especially one I’ve been looking forward to – I feel obliged to finish it. But I’ll give myself a break and start something else that I KNOW I’ll enjoy just to mix things up a bit 🙂

The only Stephenson book I’ve read so far is Snow Crash, but it did have a good ending!

I’m pretty much the same way 🙂 I have no issues putting down a book I don’t like from the library or the book store. If it’s a long book though, I try to read more of it before quitting. Sometimes books I ended up loving started off really slow and didn’t get good until after a hundred or so pages.

Have a great weekend 🙂

I agree about the library books… I pick them up on a whim and if they don’t suit me no loss. Books I buy, carefully choose or agree to review, I feel more invested in.

The very massive hardcover of Quicksilver is still waiting for me to read it. I know what you mean.

Quicksilver. . . you could kill someone with that thing. It’s a great book, but every 50 pages I’d exclaim “this is the greatest book I’ve ever read!”, and then 50 more pages would go by and I’d be screaming “this is such a peice of crap!!”. And the whole thing went back and forth like that. and then I read the 2nd book in the series, but then couldn’t get through the third.

I agree about library books too! I find them much easier to discard, I can always borrow them again later if I change my mind and want to finish. With my own books, I tend to put them in a pile now – a For Later pile. There’s always going to be a day when I’m going to want to go back to them.

Happy weekend!

I’m more likely to abandon library books, too. I haven’t actually read a library book in ages, though!

Thanks for stopping by my site. Have a great weekend!

I tend to keep reading, too, especially if I’ve agreed to review a book. However, I’m very careful in accepting books; so far, I haven’t received any “unsolicited” books.

My review policy enhances the chance for a book to be enjoyable.

Sometimes I miscalculate, though, so then I’ll push ahead. If it’s a book I bought, though…I take the “maybe later” attitude mostly.

Happy Follow Friday!!! Hope you will stop by my blog too! My publisher and I are looking for a group of bloggers for a huge blog tour next year before the release of book two in my ‘A Sense of Truth’ series! We will be giving out a few more copies of The Thirteenth Chime (we can only give out so many, being open to e-books gives an upper hand) and are still open to all interviews and guest posts. We want to fill up the Amazon page with reviews and try to reach as many people as we can!!! Hope you might consider being a part of the team! Thank you either way!

Sincerely,

Do you post bad reviews of books that have been sent to you by authors or publishers?

Yes. If I’ve made a committment (either to the publisher, the author, or myself) to review a book, I do it. and it’s always an honest review. if I didn’t like the book, you’ll know. I try to only commit to books that look like something I’d like, but sometimes I choose poorly.

Stopping by to say hi to another review of graphic literature! (or at least, one who bothered to specify it in their blog description). Looking forward to reading your reviews!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Like you, I try not to commit to reviewing books that I won’t like. I can’t always know in advance what I will and won’t like, but I can make an educated guess. I will do a little research before I accept a review copy of a book by an author I know nothing about.

some of the books reviewed here were free ARCs supplied by publishers/authors/other groups. Some of the books here I got from the library. the rest I *gasp!* actually paid for. I'll do my best to let you know what's what.
