Countdown to the Time Warp

Ok, so I mixed my metaphors just a little bit. ..
Planning to join me for Vintage SF Month this January? (wait, what? click for introduction and faqs and plenty of recommendations)
Here’s a spiffy badge-y thing for you to use. Put it in your sidebar, in your reviews, whatever you’d like. And if you don’t need no stinkin’ badges, that’s OK too.
Closer to January I’ll also set up a tab up at the top where everyone can post their review links in the comments so we can all see what everyone else is up to. It’s gonna be just swell!
In no particular order, here’s what I’ve come up with so far that I’m planning to read in January:

And if I get through that list, it’s not like I don’t have stacks and stacks of other Vintage goodies to read.
Remember, this is a not-a-challenge. no sign ups, no e-mails, no reminders, no contests or points or winners. Just old fashioned pulpy fun.
oh, and btw, I’m working on my “best of 2011” list, really, I am. 😉

Vintage SF month you say? I’m definitely in…it’s always nice to take a little blast to the past, so to speak. Or…oh curse it, I have to say it: to go “Back to the Future!” Terrible, I know.

Well, all my planned posts on the early Hugo winners have been pushed off until January for the holidays anyhow, so I guess I’ll be in-theme by default!
Also, if you can get your hands on some CL Moore to help out your gender balance, I recommend her work. 🙂

I can’t wait to see what everyone is reading. I plan on joining the group read of “Foundation”. After that I am thinking of reading Jack Vance’s 5 book “Demon Princes” saga.

I’ll be returning to school in January, but I will do my best to squeeze a book or two in between classes and work. I’m hoping to read “The Stars My Destination” by Alfred Bester and “Day of the Triffids” by John Wyndham. Both have been sitting on my shelf for years, crying out for my attention.

Hey, I’d be interested in this for sure – I have recently started on a collected edition of the original John Carter of Mars stories by E.R.Burroughs + I can do a Robert E. Howard, have quite a bit of his stuff (though I think its more fantasty then scifi).

Robert E. Howard is definitely not science fiction, but given how much I love his Conan stuff I wouldn’t quibble with anyone who wants to read it for any kind of challenge or non-challenge.
Hope you enjoy the John Carter books. I’ve loved the first three and need to get back to them. If you enjoy the nostalgic flavor of the stories then you are in for a real treat.

Great, in that case if you don’t mind I’m going to review Howard’s horror fiction or his Kull stories if that’s cool for this sharing project, and then some John Carter later in the month.

This is a great idea! And the perfect excuse to read the vintage sci-fi I have been meaning to. Though I’m thinking four, maybe five books will go on my list. Hats off to you for putting down 14!

How fun and I like your banner! I’d like to join as I have at least three books selected for Carl’s Science Fiction Experience that qualify as vintage. Don’t know how many I will read in January but certainly at least one.

I love vintage sci fi so count me in. I’m going to read Foundation as a part of Carl’s challenge. I also hope to read some Heinlein ( The Moon is a Harsh Mistress or Rocket Ship Galileo or Starman Jones ), some Jack Vance ( Tales of a Dying Earth ) and some James White ( the first book in his hospital station series ).
I also love your non-challenge banner.

Speaking of gender balance, you could also consider having a look at Leigh Brackett. I’m a slow reader, so I don’t dare taking up your non-challenge, but Leigh Brackett is on my reading list anyway 🙂

Seeing as this is pretty much what I do anway, I’ll join you!
We and Foundation are absolute crackers, btw. Good luck with reading that lot in January, although you do seem to read rather quickly, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you do manage to crack through them all in a month.

Love the banner. I’m not sure, but I think I may actually have that book in my collection. 🙂
We and Space Lords are great. I hope you enjoy them. If I could recommend any Vance, I would go with The Dying Earth. I know there is a larger collection under that name but the first book in that universe is a series of 5 or 6 short stories and they are very good indeed. A mixture of fantasy and science fiction.
I look forward to reading some great vintage stuff during your non-challenge as well as the ever-growing pile of contemporary stuff for my own non-challenge.
I’m really looking forward to the group/book club read of Foundation.
